WCTC to hold completion ceremony for Integrated Education and Training, HSED/GED and ESL program students
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (Tuesday, May 21, 2024) – Waukesha County Technical College will recognize students for finishing their high school credential, English as a Second Language credential or Integrated Education and Training (IET) certificate on Thursday, May 23. A completion ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. in the Anthony J. Natalizio Center, main Pewaukee campus.
The ceremony will honor the achievements of students from diverse backgrounds who have overcome significant obstacles to earn their credentials. This includes students who are earning their General Education Development (GED) certificates, High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED); English as a Second Language certificates in areas such as speaking, reading, writing, grammar and others; and the newer IET certificates, which focus on gaining valuable career skills while reaching other educational goals.
Since its inception just over two years ago, about 200 students have participated in the IET program, said Lindsay Ryan, WCTC academic success navigator. IET credentials are offered in six tracks – Liberal Arts, CNC Machining, Education, Healthcare, Pre-Apprenticeship and Information Technology – and offer wrap-around support for students who are below the college readiness level. This support includes high-level advising, preparation courses, team teaching with a College and Career Readiness instructor and technical instructor, built-in support courses and free tuition for those in select tracks. IET tracks take one year or less for students to complete, and credits earned in the IET transfer into WCTC technical diploma or associate degree programs.
