Lab Overview
The Applied AI Lab is WCTC’s dedicated space for exploring how artificial intelligence works in real-world environments. Designed as a hands-on innovation studio, the Lab gives students, faculty, entrepreneurs and partners a place to test ideas, prototype solutions and experience AI technologies in action.
The Lab supports a wide range of applied learning from computer vision and machine learning to intelligent automation. Whether used for coursework, employer-driven projects or community exploration, the Lab provides the tools and expertise needed to experiment, build, and learn in a low-risk environment.
Lab Purpose & Capabilities
The Applied AI Lab was created to help learners and organizations understand how AI works and where it can make the greatest impact. Its capabilities include:
- Applied experimentation:
Try out models, workflows and AI tools before deploying them in classrooms, workplaces or organizations. - Rapid prototyping: Build small-scale versions of automation, detection or data-processing systems.

Explore industry tools to determine which solutions best fit real business needs.

Practice the technical skills employers expect, including training models, analyzing data, building automation workflows, and integrating AI tools. - Collaborative problem-solving:

Lab Equipment
The Lab is equipped to support a wide variety of AI applications, including:
- GPU-powered computing for deep learning, model training and data-heavy processing
- Robotics and automation components for testing AI-enabled workflows
- Computer vision systems for detection, classification and monitoring activities
- Generative AI development platforms for text, image and process automation projects
- Edge processing devices that simulate real-world deployment conditions
Lab Staff & Expertise
The Applied AI Lab is supported by staff, instructors and technologists with backgrounds in AI implementation, data systems, robotics, IT, cybersecurity and industry operations. Their role is to guide learners, support partner projects and ensure safe, effective use of Lab technologies.

*Additional access may be available for approved projects, industry sessions and supervised work.

Student Access
