Advanced emergency medical technicians perform certain medical procedures, provide ambulance transportation and administer pre-hospital care in preparation for getting patients to an emergency department. In this program, participate in advanced-level clinical experiences, and gain skills in IV access and fluid therapy as well as administration of aspirin, 50 percent dextrose, Narcan, Atrovent, epinephrine, glucagon and nitroglycerin.

How To Apply

Follow the steps outlined below to complete the Advanced EMT program. AEMT students must pass a criminal background check and meet several health requirements (including specific immunizations). Failure to meet these requirements will preclude students from successfully completing this program.

Before You Register

Register for the Program

View and petition for upcoming sessions. Prospective certificate students do not need to complete an application for admission to WCTC. Registration begins June 1.

Prior to the Program

  • Attend mandatory orientation (chosen during program registration).
  • Complete clinical requirements using Viewpoint Screening.

After the Program

Take the AEMT National Registry Certification Exam. Skills testing can be completed at WCTC or any testing site. The written exam must be taken at a certified testing center.

After the AEMT National Registry Exam

Apply for the AEMT State License. This licensure is required before being eligible to register in subsequent EMS licensure programs.

If you have a positive attitude, a desire to help others and can act quickly during stressful situations, a career in emergency medicine may be for you. EMTs must have good social skills, and act with empathy and humility. Solid communication and leadership skills are crucial, as EMTs need to assess and manage different situations.

You must complete the Emergency Medical Technician program in order to apply to this program.

$28,200 – $36,600 annually

Salary range estimates based on wages for related occupations in Waukesha County as reported by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI). Individual wages may vary based on experience, industry, location and specific job requirements.

This technical diploma is designed for those already licensed in the State of Wisconsin as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Upon completing Advanced EMT, students are prepared to take the National Registry Certification exam and earn the Wisconsin EMT-Intermediate Technician (AEMT) license.

Students participate in clinical rotations at local area hospitals.
