Basic Suturing Techniques
Course Description
This course is designed for the continuing education of the surgical technologist to assist the surgeon with wound closure. The student will demonstrate the basic ability to accomplish suturing and knotting techniques. The student will be able to explain and demonstrate knowledge of basic wound closure. This course will also briefly discuss tissue handling, basic surgical assisting techniques and delegation and responsibilities of the surgical assistant. Students registering for this course must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant program or equivalent. This course is designed for students with a minimum of 3 years experience working as a Surgical Technologist, NP, or PA. If the course is not full one week prior to the start date, special consideration may be given to students who don't hold these credentials who have at least 4 years scrub experience as documented by their employer and currently scrubbing in 3-4 times per week.
