Description:

This course meets the NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, training requirements for WTCS Firefighter I certification. (Students must also complete the Hazardous Materials Operations course to be eligible for WTCS Firefighter I certification testing.) Students are given the opportunity to learn, develop and practice the practical skills required to perform as a firefighter, while also receiving the didactic theory required to support those skills and related firefighting functions. This course extends past the entry-level courses to better prepare the student to function as a firefighter while also providing the necessary education and skills to be eligible for WTCS Firefighter I certification testing.

Students will also be registered for Hazardous Material Operations, which takes place during the Firefighter I course.

This class will meet within the times scheduled for your Fire Fighter I course. 

Students must attend a Mandatory Program Orientation and Expectation Session. You will choose the date during sign up.

Gear Fitting and Fit Testing Dates for Non-Affiliated Students

Monday, January 5, 2026, 12:00 pm 3:00 pm

Wednesday, January 7, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Gear Rentals are available for independent students for a $300.00 fee.

Any students participating in Firefighter I or II training must be evaluated by a physician or other qualified healthcare provider to ensure the student is able to perform the essential functions of firefighting without presenting an unreasonable risk to the safety of others.
