Course Description
This course prepares future teachers to successfully pass the Foundations of Reading Test while building a strong foundation in evidence-based literacy instruction. Grounded in the science of reading, students study phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The course examines how reading skills develop, why some students struggle and how to use explicit, systematic strategies to support diverse learners, including students with dyslexia. Students also learn to use assessment data to guide instruction and monitor progress, while gaining familiarity with the structure, content and strategies needed for success on the Foundations of Reading Test.
This course is not offered in the current semester.
