Learn to review physician documentation in order to assign diagnoses and procedure codes used for reimbursement and data reporting purposes. Explore anatomy, disease processes, diagnosis and procedure code sets, and systems to report healthcare data for reimbursement and statistical analysis in settings including hospitals, physician’s offices, healthcare and insurance organizations.

Medical coders must have sound judgment and a high level of integrity, as they are privy to patients’ personal information. Technical skills aid in working with billing software, and communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, insurance and healthcare providers.

Salary range estimates based on wages for related occupations in Waukesha County as reported by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI). Individual wages may vary based on experience, industry, location and specific job requirements.
