Accessibility and Disabilities

Technology Support and WCTC Student Email Accounts

WCTC students are required to utilize their WCTC email accounts for electronic communications with WCTC faculty and staff.

In addition to helping students access their WCTC email account, WCTC has numerous technology resources available to assist students in their educational pursuits here at WCTC. Information on student email accounts, service desk assistance, printing on campus, the use of cloud-based file storage, WCTC’s Canvas learning management system, wireless network access, computer labs, student software purchasing discounts, and other technology-related questions can be found on the Technology page.

Learning Support

WCTC wants to see all students successful in their academic pursuits and has resources for learning support. Academic Support includes instructor-led academic services to assist students with reading, writing, math, science, English as a second language, test-prep, specific course support, workshops and peer tutoring. Library services provide students with access to books and print journals, databases, streaming media, and e-books. Research and APA assistance are provided through in-person appointments, phone, e-mail, and chat. Please visit the WCTC Library Libguide for access to library resources.

Academic Advising

Academic advisors are educational partners who help WCTC students understand the College’s programs, polices, and procedures while also providing tools and resources to help the students be successful. Academic advisors assist students with course selections, developing degree plans, exploring transfer opportunities, and progressing toward graduation. Students are encouraged to maintain an ongoing relationship with their academic advisor and check in with their academic advisor each semester. Mental Health Counseling Services

Counseling services are available for students who need assistance with navigating the psychological, social, intellectual, or cultural dimensions of their student life. The counseling staff provide individual assessment and counseling, career counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation.

Anti-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity

WCTC wants every student to be able to work successfully toward graduation. We seek to treat all students equally regardless of their actual or potential parental, family or marital status. Under Title IX, it is illegal for colleges to exclude a pregnant student from participating in any part of an educational program. WCTC does not discriminate against students on the basis of sex, including a student's pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination or recovery therefrom. Academic Ethics Code of Conduct

The purpose of this code is to encourage and promote positive learning and ethical student behavior, define behavior violating academic ethics, specify procedures for the determination of the facts of the alleged misconduct, and to define penalties. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain the highest ethical standards in academic achievement within the positive learning environment provided by the College.

WCTC Student Handbook

The WCTC Student Handbook contains student policies, procedures, and resources that apply to all students at WCTC. Additional information on student life, the student code of conduct, and the academics ethics code of conduct are included within the WCTC Student Handbook as well. Course Drop or Withdrawal

Students may drop courses during the refund period. Refunds are processed according to the WCTC refund policy and schedule. Once the drop period has passed, students may then withdraw from a course any time within 75% of the course duration. After 75% of the course has been completed, students will receive a letter grade.

Scheduled Class Cancellation and Make-up Policy/Procedure

In the event of class cancellations or a campus closure WCTC has established a make-up policy and procedure to ensure that students receive appropriate time to complete missed class activities. Review the full make-up policy and procedure.

Classroom Recording Policy

Violation of WCTC's Classroom Recording Policy may result in your removal from the course and further disciplinary or legal actions. Video recording of synchronous online or in-person class sessions may be conducted at the instructor's discretion. Recording allows registered students to review content after the class or when absent. The following restrictions apply to classroom-related video recordings:

Students are prohibited from recording, copying or redistributing recordings of any classroom sessions without the instructor's approval.
Students are prohibited from distributing video recordings of course-related group projects without permission from every student in the video.

Weapons on Campus

The use, concealment, creation, manufacture or possession of weapons, parts of weapons, facsimile firearms and/or potentially dangerous devices – whether functional or not – in College buildings and facilities (owned or leased) or at College-sponsored activities held on public or private property off campus is strictly prohibited, except as permitted hereafter.

This includes any type of firearm, whether or not a permit is obtained; ammunition; switchblade; knife (excluding eating utensils); a jackknife with a blade longer than 3 inches; metal knuckles; explosives; compressed gas-operated weapons; electric weapons as defined in state statutes; archery equipment; knives which open by gravity, thrust or movement; martial arts weapons; and any other device which, based on the manner it is used or is intended to be used, is calculated or likely to produce bodily harm.

Exclusions include:

Sworn law enforcement personnel: A weapon or potentially dangerous device may be used or possessed, concealed or otherwise on the campus, grounds, facilities or buildings or at College-sponsored functions held on public or private property by a certified sworn police officer, provided it is in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and employment requirements.
Students and employees in instructional programs: Possession, transport or use of weapons by individuals who are required to carry a weapon as part of their employment or education program such as Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement students and instructors, provided it is in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, employment and educational requirements.

The methods of handling such weapons or potentially dangerous devices for training purposes shall be governed and controlled by the policies of the WCTC Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Department.
