Psychopharmacology

Course Description

Workers in human service settings will get an overview of the psychopharmacology of therapeutic drugs, over-the-counter medications, illicit drugs and alcohol that could be encountered when working with various human service populations. An emphasis is placed on the effect of drugs on the nervous system structure and brain functions; it also includes a discussion of interactions, withdrawal effects, maternal and fetal effects of drugs, and the effects of drugs and alcohol on different stages of development.
