CARES Act Emergency Grant Reporting

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provided institutions of higher education with access to federal funds to provide emergency financial aid grants to students whose lives have been disrupted, and to aid with institutional costs associated with the significant changes made to the delivery of instruction due to the Coronavirus. 

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC)’s portion of the CARES Act aid allocation is $1,935,258. WCTC signed and returned to the Department of Education the certification and agreement, including assurances that the institution intends to use no less than 50 percent of the total funds received under the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students. WCTC was awarded and received $967,629 on April 27, 2020 for emergency financial aid grants to students.

As of May 13, 2020 A total of $187,000 has been distributed to 203 students.

Eligibility and Awarding

As of May 13, 2020 approximately 2,310 WCTC students have completed a 2019-20 FAFSA and would be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education act of 1965. These students could be eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under the CARES Act.

To determine eligibility, current WCTC students completed a short questionnaire to assist in identifying the financial needs arising from the disruption of normal campus operations due to COVID-19. Each category of financial impact was assigned a grant dollar value. To enable the CARES Act funds to impact a greater number of students, an overall grant limit was determined. View the application and instructions provided to students.
