Description

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) teaches self and buddy care while under fire and treatments in situations where normal means of emergency medical care is unable to be accessed due to unsafe situations where Law Enforcement Officers function while waiting for EMS or Rescue Task Force. This course is designed for law enforcement officers and SWAT operators, but could also be used as a basic TEMS refresher for Fire/EMS personnel who have taken the 40 hour TEMS course.

Course Description and Content:

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) is an evidence-based medical care concept and is the national standard of medic care in high threat environments for police, fire and EMS in the US.

TECC focuses on the three leading causes of preventable deaths including hemorrhage from extremity wounds, tension pneumothorax, and airway obstruction. TECC concepts provide for simple, easily trainable, and effective treatments in the field, which would potentially allow for an injured officer to defend himself or herself while attempting to reach safety and definitive medical care. These treatments would include self and buddy application of tourniquets, pressure dressings, wound packing, hemostatic agents, penetrating chest wound care from gun shot or stab wounds, tension pneumothorax care, and basic airway management.

Attendees must be an active member of a law enforcement agency or be affiliated with a TEMS team, EMS service or hospital to attend.
