Submit an Accommodated Testing Request

You can demonstrate your reading, writing and/or math skills in one or more of the following ways:

  • High school GPA of 2.60 or above within the last 15 years.
  • Official ACT, ACCUPLACER©, Compass, Asset, GED - 2014 Series (165 or higher), or TABE Advanced test results. Scores no older than five years are accepted.
  • Prior college coursework may meet this requirement in whole or in part. Courses must be in the specific area(s), and you must have earned a grade of C or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in the courses.
  • If none of the above apply, sign up for the ACCUPLACER©.

The ACCUPLACER© college placement exams measure a student's proficiency in specific academic areas. Placement scores will determine what courses a student can enroll in for their first semester, which will affect how quickly a student can complete a degree at WCTC.

ACCUPLACER©, developed by The College Board, is administered on the computer and is untimed. The typical test-taker will need approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete the exam.

We strongly recommend doing some preparation before your testing date. Check out this free ACCUPLACER© Study App and math review, and consider attending an ACCUPLACER© Test Prep Workshop before your testing session!

Special Accommodations/IEP

For those requiring special accommodations, contact Student Accessibility to meet with a transition specialist in order to verify your accommodations; do not sign up using the form below. The ACCUPLACER© COMPANION is a paper-and-pencil test used for students needing accommodations in this area.

ALEKS PPL (Placement, Preparation and Learning) is a web-based assessment tool that will accurately assess, prepare and place students into the math courses where they are most likely to succeed. WCTC uses ALEKS PPL as the placement assessment for 804-198 Calculus 1 (Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Programs) and as a retest option for other math courses. Total fees for ALEKS PPL are $35.00 ($25 for ALEKS PPL and $10 fee for first proctored assessment)

ALKES PPL has test prep built in and is customized for you. Once you purchase ALEKS PPL you will have the opportunity to take five assessments within the ALEKS PPL system. The first assessment is used as practice. Customized learning and remediation is created for you in the Prep and Learning Module. This gives you the opportunity to refresh forgotten math skills before taking the proctored assessments that are used to place you into math courses. Only assessments taken proctored in the Testing Center are used for placement.

The Math Center located in Building B, Room B-110A is available for your use when you are taking your first placement assessment or working in the Prep and Learning Module.

ALEKS Steps

  1. Purchase ALEKS PPL product at www.aleks.com ($25).

    • After the assessment you will be required to work in the Prep and Learning Module for 3 or more hours.
  3. Take the second placement assessment proctored in the WCTC Testing Center. This will be used for official placement. Sign up online and pay the $10 fee.

    • You will either place into the math course you need or a lower-level math class. If you place into a lower-level class, continue working in the Prep and Learning Module (optional, but recommended).
    • If you do not place into the math course you need and you choose to continue with additional preparation, work in the Prep and Learning Module for an additional 3 or more hours.
  4. Your third placement assessment can be taken on your own or proctored in the WCTC Testing Center. Only proctored assessments can be used for official placement.

    • If taken on your own, after the assessment, you will be required to work in the Prep and Learning Module for an additional 3 or more hours.
    • If taken as a proctored assessment, you will either place into the math course you need or a lower-level math class. If you place into a lower-level class continue working in the Prep and Learning Module for an additional 3 or more hours (optional, but recommended).
  5. Your fourth placement assessment can be taken on your own or proctored in the WCTC Testing Center.

  6. Take your fifth placement assessment proctored in WCTC Testing Center as a final official placement.
