  About the Special Services Unit

    WCTC is committed to offering a wide variety of services to meet the needs of students with disabilities. The Special Services unit provides transition, academic support, and counseling services for students with disabilities. The unit also makes available reasonable and necessary academic accommodations, counseling, evaluation, academic support, and job placement services for students with disabilities. The Special Services staff works closely with program counselors, faculty, advisors, mentors, and staff within the college to assist the student in addressing academic and program needs.

    Transition Services—Bridging Gaps

    • Providing high schools with information on college programs and services
    • Articulating with parents, teachers, students and service providers
    • Assisting students with program selection and supportive services

    Academic Support—Building Success

      Students receive instructional assistance in the Learning Place from instructors certified to work with various disabilities. Instructors work with students in small group settings. Students and instructors work with the texts and resources used in the course.

    Counseling/Case Management—Supporting Vocational Choices

      Counseling and case management services are provided to assist students with disabilities in program selection, accommodations and on-going support.

    Services to Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Visually Impaired—Specialized Support

      Students are provided with assistance through interpreting and note-taking services, as well as adaptive equipment.

    Short-term Occupational Programs—Opportunities for Success

      Some short-term occupational training programs are offered for students with disabilities. The Special Services Coordinator can provide information on these offerings.

    Documenting a Disability

      A student with a disability contacts either the Director of Special Services or the Transition Retention Specialist regarding the services offered by the college. To be eligible for services the following must be provided:

        Supportive documentation regarding the nature and scope of the disability (academic, medical and/or psychological evaluations, and IEPs)

      Services and accommodations are determined by the Director of Special Services or the Transition Retention Specialist.

      Please remember that all printed information and conversations regarding a student with disabilities are confidential unless written permission from the student is obtained.
