Information about Chapter 35 Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance Benefits
Chapter 35 Survivor's & Dependents' Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits.
Eligibility criteria
How do I apply for Chapter 35 Survivors' & Dependents' Educational Assistance Benefits?
- Complete VA Form 22-5490, Application for Survivor's and Dependents' Educational Assistance
VA Form 22-5490 can be obtained from the Veteran/Military Benefits desk in C-019, can be downloaded from the web, or you can complete it online.
If you have previously received VA educational benefits, you will need to complete VA Form 22-5495, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Form, which can be obtained from the Veteran/Military Benefits desk in C-019 or can be downloaded from the web.
- Submit a copy of veterans' DD-214 to the Veteran/Military Benefits desk in C-019.
- If a dependent of the veteran, submit a birth certificate.
- If a spouse of the dependent, submit a marriage certificate.
- Complete and submit a VA Education Benefit Enrollment Certification Form
This can be obtained from the Veteran/Military Benefits desk in C-019. This must be done every semester if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the semester.
