    Tips on completing scholarship applications:

    • Review the scholarship criteria to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
    • Make a photocopy of the application and use it as a work sheet.
    • Read the entire application. Be sure to carefully follow the instructions as stated on the application form.
    • Be sure your thoughts are well developed, clearly expressed, and easy to understand.
    • Be sure to provide all of the information requested.
    • Use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Type the application if possible. Neatness counts.
    • Review all of your answers on the application and make necessary corrections before typing it.
    • Your application should look professional, neat, and concise.
    • Make sure your application is submitted by the deadline date.
    • Correctly assemble the required materials.

    Tips on what to include in a scholarship application:

    • It is important not to be too modest. Include as much information about yourself as you can.
    • Present yourself in a positive manner, eliminate all negativity, and speak to your accomplishments.
    • Emphasize good grades and related work experience.
    • List all vocational interests and memberships.
    • Make sure that you can verify all information provided on the scholarship application.
    • Be prepared to provide your academic background, employment history, extracurricular activities, and your personal statements/essays.
    • Illustrate how you will use the money wisely should you be selected as the recipient.
    • File for financial aid of you wish to be considered for scholarships which have need as a criterion.

    Tips on selecting references

    • Carefully select the people you choose for references.
    • Select people who represent different aspects of your character and experience, such as: pastor, employer, counselor, or instructor.
    • Select people who can say good, positive things about you. Have them write a letter using letterhead paper.
