  Parents as Partners

    Parents attend with their children and become active participants in their son's or daughters' career development.

    Communication and Career Planning using the MBTI

    • Parents and students both complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or Murphy-Meisgeier Type Indicator for Children (MMTIC).
    • Recommended, but not required to be taken prior to the “Realizing the dream” or “Post High School Options” workshops.
    • Designed for parents along with their students in 7th through 12th grades.
    • Personality types are utilized as a tool to aid in communication.
    • MBTI results are used to explore careers based on type and temperament.

    Realizing The Dream

    • Designed for parents along with their students in 7th through 9th grades.
    • Parents help students identify interests, abilities, and work preferences.
    • Participants learn about current and future trends in the labor market.
    • Students explore potential careers based on the results of career exploration activities.

    • Students complete a variety of assessments to help narrow potential career choices.
    • Students utilize computer based career planning programs and the Internet for further career exploration, financial aid, scholarship searches, and college information.
