    Life/Work Planning

      Evenings sessions offered: Mon & Wed OR Tues & Thurs - 6-8:55 PM
      4 sessions – 12 hours total

      This 4-session workshop helps you focus on your personality, interests, skills and work values. Each of these elements is important to consider when choosing a career. This program provides information about how to use what you learn about yourself to make choices regarding a career.

      Please call Registration at 691.5578 to register. Classes cost $67.00 and are held in the Workforce Development Center, room W107.

        Learn how to register

      • Using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator you will discover your preferences and learn what your strengths are and what kinds of work you might enjoy.
      • Assess what skills you would enjoy and use computer programs to research related occupational areas. Take the Strong Interest Inventory. Examine the topic of Wellness related to work.
      • Review your values related to your occupational choice, interpret the Strong Interest Inventory and use your Strong results to research related occupational areas.
      • Look at Labor Market information, explore making effective decisions, and tour the Career Center. As part of your career exploration you will have taken two of the most widely used career assessments, the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. You can use your Strong and MBTI Combined report to identify:
        • work environments and tasks you may find satisfying
        • specific occupations that offer good possibilities for exploration
        • strategies for career development
        • tactics for using your personality preferences to stay motivated during the career exploration process.
        • You will look at resources to test your choices and create an educational and/or occupational plan to take action.

      Career Consultants are available to help you get started using the computerized career planning systems including Discover and WisCareers. These systems can help you discover occupations that relate to your skills, interests and work values and also access outlook, salary and training information. Career Consultants discuss your findings and help you develop next steps in your career planning.

    Career Decisions – Online

      Course cost is $106.05.

      This online course will help you focus on your interests, skills, values and decision making style. It also provides structure for you to conduct informational interviews with professionals in your field of interest. One initial group meeting is required and additional activities are completed over the Internet.

      The government defines nontraditional careers as one in which less than 25% of those employed are female or male. These careers can offer great pay, job satisfaction, and career advancement. Today women and men have the freedom to follow their own personal interests, aptitudes and values toward expanded career options.
