2-year, 8-credit apprenticeship
What is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a method of training
based upon an arrangement between an
employee (apprentice) and an employer
(salon) enabling the apprentice to learn
while earning an hourly wage. A contract
is established between the salon and
apprentice detailing the areas of training,
hours of training and salary. The
Wisconsin Department of Workforce
Development, Bureau of apprenticeship
Standards oversees this contract.
About the Apprenticeship
An indenture agreement is signed
between a salon owner and apprentice for
two years. The apprentice will work 36
hours and study four hours each week.
All aspects of hair, skin and nails are
covered, and the barber/cosmetologist
works with current fashion trends to
create a total look for men, women and
children.
While working in the salon, the
apprentice is also required to complete
288 classroom theory hours within 2-3
years at 4 hours per week.
