16-credit technical diploma
A phlebotomy technician’s chief
responsibility is drawing blood and
conducting other specimen collections.
The phlebotomist must recognize any
conditions that might alter collections,
correlate types of lab tests to the written
diagnosis, and communicate with both
the laboratory and the patients to provide
the best care possible. Graduates of the
phlebotomy program will be competent
in multiple skills of specimen collection,
have a strong medical terminology
background and possess excellent
interpersonal skills. Drawing blood from
a patient for laboratory analysis,
understanding lab test requirements and
maintaining specimen quality are all
skills phlebotomy students will develop.
Graduates of WCTC’s Phlebotomy
program are eligible to take the
certification exams.
