17-credit technical diploma
Gain the knowledge needed to provide
consecutive or simultaneous medical
language interpretation services for
limited English proficient patients and
families. Interpreters are skilled in both
spoken and written translation and
interpretation as well as the nonverbal
communication and nuances of various
dialects and subcultures. Graduates may
find employment in hospitals, clinics,
nursing homes, mental health centers and
other medical-related facilities.
Because this is a bilingual program in
English and Spanish, students entering
the program must be able to speak clearly
and correctly in both languages as well as
write grammatically correct in both
languages.
The State of Wisconsin does not have, at
present, a State Certification although it is
in development at this time. Therefore,
this program is not a State Certification in
the field of Language Interpretation.
