Barber/Cosmetology Options at WCTC
WCTC offers two unique barber/cosmetology programs, an apprenticeship program and a full-time technical diploma program. Both programs at WCTC prepare students for a variety of exciting opportunities in the profession. There are endless opportunities in small or large privately owned salons, barber shops, spas, corporate chains, or franchise salons.
Barber/Cosmetology includes training in all aspects of hair, skin and nails. The delivery of this instruction varies between the apprenticeship program and the full-time technical diploma program. These programs will be fast-paced requiring professional conduct, responsible behavior, and a time commitment on the part of each student. Both programs prepare the student for the state practitioner’s exam for licensure in the industry. Outlined below are a few points differentiating between the two programs.
Full-time Technical Diploma
- Students are in a school atmosphere 5 days per week, approximately 40 hours, working under the supervision of an instructor
- This program meets the needs of students that need structure and want someone there to help at most times.
- Affordable tuition and fees.
- 1800 hours, 1 year program
- This program is great for students that need more guidance.
Apprenticeship Program
- Students are in a fast-paced salon atmosphere for 32 hours working with a fellow professional or salon trainer.
- WCTC classes are 4 hours per week for 2 years.
- This program is best for students that are very self motivated that like to be where the action is.
- 3712 hours, 2-3 year program
- Minimal costs. You earn money for each hour you spend in the program.
- You must be self motivated and not require the continual guidance of an instructor.
