42-credit technical diploma
Waukesha County Technical Colleges technical diploma program combines the theoretical concepts and practical instruction you need to become a barber /cosmetologist upon successful completion of the state practitioner’s licensing examination.
The program consists of a 12 month, 1800 hour program. Students are prepared with the basic skills necessary for state licensure as a barber/cosmetology practitioner. Our goal is to train and educate highly respected entry level barber/cosmetology professionals. Students entering this industry generally have an interest in fashion, hairstyling, skin care, and nails and enjoy working with people.
Areas of study include haircutting, styling, coloring, perm waving and chemical relaxing. You will also receive instruction in skin care and nails. Classes in professional and personal development, business practices, communication and Wisconsin law will help build a successful professional for employment. Working on mannequins, fellow students, and guests of WCTC’s Style and Class Salon will provide a simulated working environment for the practical application of skills.
Students will need the flexibility to commit to a 40 hour week of school. Start dates for the program are offered in both August and January.
