    Accreditation Handbook (pdf)

Is WCTC an accredited institution of higher education?

Yes, WCTC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. (800.621.7440)

What is the Higher Learning Commission?

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools is an external organization recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. The Higher Learning Commission is one of six regional accrediting agencies in the United States.

    Who are the evaluators?

The Higher Learning Commission uses experienced external evaluators from a variety of 2-year, 4-year, and graduate colleges and universities throughout the United States. They are reliable authorities as the quality of training offered by an educational institution like WCTC.

    Does the accreditation expire?

Yes.  WCTC’s most recent comprehensive evaluation took place in 2000 and will expire in 2010.

How does WCTC compare with other schools?

The Higher Learning Commission does not rate a college’s performance in comparison to one another. Receiving ten-year accreditation, however, is an achievement all colleges and universities aspire to but not all attain.

The quality of the education, staff, and services at WCTC has resulted in accreditation with high commendations every ten years since 1979-80.

Does the Higher Learning Commission also provide program accreditation?

No. Programs receive independent accreditations that apply specific standards for curricula and course content for those students preparing to practice a specific profession.
