Paramedic Technician

About the Program

68-credit associate degree

For those already licensed in the State of Wisconsin as an Emergency Medical Technician, paramedic is recognized as the highest level of EMS licensure available within the state. Paramedic students will learn to manage emergency patient care and treatment by performing comprehensive patient assessments, using critical thinking skills, providing advanced cardiac life support, administering various medications, and performing advanced skills and interventions.

  • WCTC's Paramedic Technician program is the first and, currently, only accredited Paramedic program in the State of Wisconsin. Accredited by the CoAEMSP/CAAHEP, our Paramedic Technician program meets state and national paramedic curriculum standards so graduates are eligible for Wisconsin Paramedic licensure testing after completion of their first 38 credits of technical studies courses. To meet local employer demand, WCTC does offer two-semester (evening) and 22-week (Monday through Friday, days) schedules for these licensure courses.
  • A waiting list for program enrollment is maintained by the Fire/EMS Training Department and enrollment priority is given to individuals affiliated with local paramedic-level fire departments or EMS providers.
    • Prospective students must hold a valid State of Wisconsin EMT-Basic license to be included on the program enrollment waiting list.
    • Students who are not currently licensed as EMT-Basics within Wisconsin are not eligible for inclusion on the Paramedic program enrollment waiting list. (Please see the EMT-Basic page for information on WCTC's EMT-Basic program.)
    • Students are admitted into the program from the program enrollment waiting list in fall for the two-semester and 22-week offerings, and in spring for the 22-week offering. Notification is made to students of their eligibility for admission into the Paramedic program in May for fall admission and October for spring admission.
  • Evening course options available.
  • Students enrolling in the Paramedic program must pass a Criminal Background Check as well as meet several health requirements (including specific immunizations). Failure to meet these requirements will preclude students from successfully completing the Paramedic program.
  • Program admission and course registrations are coordinated through the Fire and EMS Training Department. Students seeking information on the program should not contact Registration. Rather, please contact the Fire and EMS Training Office at 262.691.5541 for more information regarding the program or to have your name added to the program enrollment waiting list.
