Human Services Associate

About the Program

66-credit associate of applied science degree

In the Human Services program, you may choose to specialize in addiction studies (alcohol and other drug abuse), developmental disabilities, or youth counseling/mental health. Challenging course work helps you develop and practice the skills needed to provide direct client care, treatment, rehabilitation, education and behavioral direction to individuals or groups. In addition, you will study behavioral and rehabilitation techniques, individual and group counseling methods, pharmacology, family systems and ethics.

Graduates often work in public or private settings including residential treatment centers, mental health programs, juvenile detention centers, group homes, halfway houses, and alcoholism and drug abuse centers. They often work with, and under direction of, social workers, psychologists, counselors and other professionals in order to meet client needs.

  • Over 30 area practicum sites provide students with numerous options for practical experience.
  • Practice a variety of counseling and assessment techniques in the WCTC Skills Labs.
  • Earn additional certificates in Developmental Disabilities and Youth Care Counseling.
  • Upon program completion, be prepared to take the "Substance Abuse Professional Statutes and Rules Exam."
